'Our imagination lies in the sky, Our dreams are expressed through glass'

Artist's Statement
As  a glass artist looking to the earth, water and sky for inspiration creating art work born from fire during the glass making process. He takes his glass work out into the environment looking to commune with nature on an endeavour he calls the 'one tonne sky project'. The objects in the photos are called skystones which he temporarily brings out into the environment where the water, earth and sky meet and takes photos over a 24 hour period of time to capture the various interactions with light. It is a commentary on our need to have a symbiotic relationship with the planet from a humanistic approach.
Glass can interplay with many ideas such as technology. In this new age; We talk on the phone with it, we look out into the universe with it, we look into the depths of our cells with it, we preserve our food in it. Glass vacuum tubes were used in the first computer; it is the foundation of technology with its roots from ancient man.
'I truly believe we are in the glass age'. Glass has many mystical qualities and lessons in regards to impermanence- the objects he creates can last a few seconds or for thousands of years.

While studying at Sheridan College he came across a medieval chart that referenced symbols to various substances from the Earth used by crafts people, the symbol used for glass was infinity. He was amazed that even back then the designer of the chart was aware of the limitless potential for glass. Glass has been argued to be at least 10,000 years old. Discovered by the ancient ones who laid the foundations for modern man.
It was this period of time that caught his attention. While he was thinking about the history that has brought our Civilization to this point. He began to wonder with all the changes that have occurred if there was anything untouched by man, a constant so to speak. This is where his journey began with the sky. The archetype of the sky has relatively remained unchanged, influencing all who have lived.
The sky has become an incredible source of inspiration. The study of it was imperative to his creative outlet, a sustaining sense of awe, giving him a sense of balance in this age of technology.
Glass transcends into all aspects of our daily lives, as does the sky. As we have stood before it all the days of our life, boundless and limitless is the sky.
So the question has become, do we know more now in this age of technology, or have we forgotten many wonders along the way.
His pursuit of self-discovery will hopefully cross the path of some of these wonders. 'With infinity on my mind, glass in one hand and the sky in the other, I'll walk the steps towards the horizon.'
